The gay scene in Adelaide
Adelaide's gay scene is centred around **Hindley Street and the West End**, with a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere that regulars often describe as more sociable and less scene-obsessed than larger Australian cities. The community here tends to be tight-knit and welcoming to visitors.
**Adelaide Fringe** (February–March) is the Southern Hemisphere's largest arts festival and draws a huge LGBTQ+ crowd, making it the peak season to visit if you enjoy a buzzing atmosphere. Outside of festival season, the scene is quieter but consistently warm. Adelaide locals are generally unfussy and direct — turn up, be yourself, and you'll fit right in.
