The gay scene in Columbus
The heart of Columbus's gay life is the **Short North Arts District**, a walkable stretch of High Street running just north of downtown. You'll find a relaxed, cruise-friendly atmosphere here alongside galleries, independent shops and some of the city's best bars. The neighbourhood is inclusive and mixed — expect a broad crowd in terms of age and style.
Columbus Pride, held each June, draws hundreds of thousands to the city and is one of the largest Pride events in the Midwest — book accommodation well in advance if you're visiting then. Outside of Pride season, weekends are reliably busy, while the university calendar means the city is particularly lively from September through April. Locals tend to be friendly and unpretentious; striking up conversation is easy and very much the norm.
