Stockport doesn't have a dedicated gay quarter of its own, but its proximity to Manchester's famous Canal Street means the full spectrum of gay nightlife is never more than 15–20 minutes away by train. Locally, the atmosphere at gay venues tends to be relaxed and neighbourhood-friendly — regulars are welcoming to newcomers, and there's none of the attitude you might encounter in larger city scenes.
The scene here suits those who prefer a quieter, more intimate experience. Weekends see the most footfall, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings. If you're visiting from out of town, arriving early in the afternoon on a weekend gives you the best of both worlds — a session at a local sauna followed by an easy train ride into Manchester's Canal Street for the evening.
