- The area observes GMT (UTC+0) in winter and BST (UTC+1) in summer — worth noting for visitors flying in from further afield.
The gay scene in Hove
The gay scene in Hove is closely tied to Brighton's famous Kemptown neighbourhood, just a short journey east along the seafront or via the Old Steine. Kemptown — often called "the Village" — is the heartbeat of LGBTQ+ life in the area, and Hove residents are regulars there. That said, Hove itself has a quiet but established queer presence, particularly around the Church Road and Western Road corridors.
The overall atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious. Brighton Pride Weekend in early August is the peak period for the whole area, drawing enormous crowds, so book accommodation well in advance if visiting then. Outside of Pride, the scene is consistent year-round, with a strong local community that keeps things busy even in the off-season. Locals tend to be friendly and inclusive — newcomers are rarely made to feel out of place.
