The gay scene in Birmingham
## The Gay Scene
Birmingham's gay scene is anchored in the **Gay Village**, a compact cluster of bars and venues around Hurst Street and Bromsgrove Street in the city centre — walkable from New Street Station in around ten minutes. The atmosphere is famously welcoming: less exclusive than London's Soho, with a strong sense of local community and plenty of mixed, cruise-friendly spaces.
The scene peaks during **Birmingham Pride** (typically held in late May), when the Gay Village fills with tens of thousands of visitors. Outside of Pride, weekends are reliably busy year-round. Locals tend to be unpretentious and sociable — you'll rarely feel out of place as a visitor. Most venues operate late into the night, so pace yourself if you're planning a full evening out.
